Holiday China Tour Volunteer Program

Holiday China Tour is seeking online volunteers who will help us to improve our websites and services to our customers.

Why volunteer with us?

Holiday China Tour is a travel business in Guilin, China. We are continually searching for ways to provide better service, better products and innovative ways to give our customers a better China experience.

Our volunteer program opens the door to many new and exciting opportunities: the wonderful chance to know more about China, its culture and people and help those who are interested in traveling China. It is undoubtedly a great way to make new friends and learn new skills. Best of all, you can set your own schedule and time commitment in volunteering with us.

We are looking for people who are interested in China and/or love traveling, and would like to share their travel experiences and help others interested in traveling to China.

Categories of work

English Language
A. Proofreading of articles and web pages. Review articles for

Correct English (grammar, spelling, vocabulary)
Appropriate English (language, sentence structure, expression)
Content (marketing focus, cultural aspects, make suggestions for additional content)

B. Contribute to our English evaluation project.

Check if English is properly/correctly used in the articles. Comment on whether the expression is native and understandable.
Check for appropriate English (marketing focus, cultural aspects, expression)
Give an overall evaluation of each piece of we send to you.
Provide any other suggestions you may wish to offer.

Skills Required
Excellent writing skills, with a flair for the English language.
The ability to pay attention to details when editing information.
The ability to commit sufficient time to take on a project and to finish it in a timely manner.
Access to a computer with Microsoft Word installed. Ongoing and regular access to the Internet and basic knowledge of computer use.
A keen sense of what foreign travelers are seeking, and prevailing trends.

Information Provision
Provide your help on our web site community. Log in to our Community page and check it regularly, share your travel experience with others, help people understand China and Holiday China Tour, and let more people know about our online community.
Collect any interesting information from around China. Suggest to us any information about China that you think may arouse curiosity and interests among foreign travelers.
Collect any non-copyrighted photos, audio and video footage taken in China that may of interest to perspective travelers.

Skills Required
Good written communication skills
Ability to commit a reasonable amount of time to our online community each week or, less frequently, to information and media gathering
Access to a computer with Microsoft Word installed. Ongoing and regular access to the Internet and a basic knowledge of computer use.
A keen sense of what foreign travelers are seeking, and prevailing trends.

Website
A. Give us valued advice on our web site. Suggest how we can improve our web site according to the following criteria:

Is our web site well laid out and easy to navigate?
Does it contain information relevant to prospective clients and travelers to China?
Do you find the organization and content of our web site (categories, classification, labels) well through out and complete?
Any other suggestions to make our web site eye-catching and appealing.
B. Assist us in developing and testing computer programs and systems.

Skills Required
Good written and oral communication skills
Good computer skills are essential, especially in common website planning software such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc. Experience in web site planning or other relevant areas.
The ability to commit sufficient time to take on a project and to finish it in a timely manner.
Access to a computer with Microsoft Word installed. Ongoing and regular access to the Internet.

In-Office Volunteer

Volunteers are required to first help us for a spell online before being considered for in-office work.

Your rights and obligations

Unlike paid staff, volunteer staff are not covered by award conditions or workplace agreements. Volunteers, however, do have rights, some of which are enshrined in legislation and some of which are the moral obligations of an organisation involving volunteers. The following list is the basis of your rights as a volunteer. As a volunteer you have the right:

To work in a healthy and safe environment;
To be interviewed and employed in accordance with equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation;
To be adequately covered by insurance;
To be given accurate and truthful information about the organisation for which you are working;
To be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses incurred on behalf of the organisation for which you are working;
To be given a copy of the organisation's volunteer policy and any other policy that affects your work;
Not to fill a position previously held by a paid worker;
Not to do the work of paid staff during industrial disputes;
To have a job description and agreed working hours;
To have access to a grievance procedure;
To be provided with orientation to the organisation;
To have your confidential and personal information dealt with in accordance with the principles of the Privacy Act; and
To be provided with sufficient training to do your job.
