China Geography

China is the third largest country in the World, just behind Russia and Canada. The population of China is over 1.3 billion population. This is about one-fifth of the worlds population.

Located in the east on the Asian continent on the western shore of the Pacific Ocean, the Peoples Republic of China has a land area of about 9.6 million sq km, and is the third-largest country in the world, next only to Russia and Canada.

From north to south, the territory of China stretches from the center of the Heilong River north of the town of Mohe to the Zengmu Reef at the southernmost tip of the Nansha Islands, covering a distance of 5,500 km. From east to west, the nation extends from the confluence of the Heilong and Wusuli rivers to the Pamirs, covering a distance of 5,200 km.

in the east along the shores of the Yellow River and the East China Sea has alluvial plains, in the north of the edges of the Mongolian Plateau are grasslands, south is dominated by the hills and low mountain ranges and in the central east are the deltas of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. While most of the arable land of China lies along these rivers and they were the centers of the ancient civilization.

There is great number of rivers and the inland river system accounts for 36 percent of the landmass. The Yangtze River is the longest river in China and the third longest one in the world ( 6,300 km). China also has about 2800 natural lakes on the west , the north has a great alluvial plain and hills ranges and the Himalayas that contains the planets highest peak traverse the south. Besides the land area China also has neighboring seas and numerous islands.
