Guangzhou Transportation

Guangzhou is the transportation hub of Southern China. Guangzhou tourism traffic developed, water, land and air transportation network is very developed. The new Guangzhou Airport is the most important International airport in southern China. Each day there are flights to all parts of China and some foreign countries. Guangzhou's highway system is also well developed. The region's sprawling road can take visitors to the whole country. There is also good water transportation system in which the Huangpu Port is a very important large port in Southern China.

Airport Transportation
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is about 28 kilometers from the city center of Guangzhou. And there are specific airport highways from the urban areas to the airport. It is one of the three busiest air transportation hubs in China. There are totally 123 scheduled flights in the airport, and 86 of them are domestic flights between Guangzhou and major Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Xian. Major cities worldwide can be reached in 15 hours from Guangzhou. The airport's flight network covers South and Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Laos, Burma, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. In addition, there are flights to Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Seoul and Lagos.

Guangzhou Baiyun Airport boasts very convenient ground transportation system. This system is mainly made up of taxis, six airport express bus lines (Line1, Line2A, Line2B, Line3, Line4 and Line11), nine airport shuttle bus lines (Line5, Line6A, Line6B, Line7A, Line7B, Line8A, Line8B, Line9 and Line10), and frequent airport intercity bus between Guangzhou and other cities in Guangdong Privince. Additionally, the aiport subway line is under construction. By September of 2010, it will be in operation.

By Train
Guangzhou is the Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Guangzhou starting point of the three railway, Beijing-Guangzhou railway in the end, the main trunk railway of North-south China. There are three railway stations for passenger transport. Guangzhou Railway Station at Huanshi Road is the largest and the most important one, operating trains between Guangzhou and Beijing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, Lhasa and many other China cities. Guangzhou East Railway Station (Tianhe Railway Station) mainly provides through trains from Guangzhou to Hong Kong and frequent bullet trains between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Guangzhou North Railway Station in Huadu District is a small station mainly operates bullet trains between Guangzhou and Wuhan.

By Long-Distance Bus
Guangzhou has built a number of inter-city highways, the city also built the elevated roads, road bridges, crossing the river tunnels. The long-distance bus goes to the neighboring areas and direct bus service between Guangzhou and Hong Kong are available. Guangzhou has a convenient expressway system radiating from the downtown area to cities countrywide especially cities in and around Guangdong Province. Now there are nearly 20 big long-distance bus stations in Guangzhou, among which the Provincial Bus Station, Guangzhou Passenger Station, Fangcun Bus Station, Tianhe Bus Station and Yuexiu South Bus Station are the major ones.

By Ship
Guangzhou is located in the Pearl River estuary and maritime transport is well developed. there are multi-class ferries daily between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta country. Guangzhou is one of the top ten famous port cities in China. Guangzhou Port is made up of Humen Port, Xinsha Port, Huangpu Port and many other inner ports. The ship routes lead to more than 100 domestic ports and over 300 foreign ports. Some ports of Guangzhou provide passenger transport service. Panyu Lianhuashan Port provides high speed passenger liners between Guangzhou and Hong Kong every day. Huangpu Port offers ships to Xiuying Port, Haikou.

Guangzhou Urban Transportation
City transportation is also very developed in Guangzhou, include city buses, trams, buses, subway and other transit lines.

By City-Bus
The capacity of Guangzhou city bus is continuously enhanced. There are more than 500 bus lines opening in Guangzhou City. Most of the city-buses are equipped with air-conditioner.

Guangzhou Subway
There are seven subway lines used in Guangzhou at present. The subway utilizes a stage fare system. The longer the journey the more you pay. At present, the subway has connected most important parts of Guangzhou City, including Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guangzhou South Railway and Foshan City.

By Taxi
A Guangzhou taxi charges CNY7 for the first 2.3 kilometers (1.4 miles), and CNY2.6 for succeeding kilometers. Moreover CNY1 is claimed as the fuel surcharge.

By Water Bus
Guangzhou water transport is mainly made up of Suigang Port, Zhoutouzui Port, Zengcheng Xintang Port, Panyu Lianhuashan Port and Nansha Port. There are six water buses running along the Pearl River, supplying residents and tourists with a more convenient transport service with four piers along the line - Zhongda Ferry Pier, Tianzi Ferry Pier, Xidi Ferry Pier and Fangcun Ferry Pier.
