Beijing Capital Airport

Beijing Capital International Airport

Beijing Capital International Airport, Capital Airport for short, is Beijing's main international airport and China's busiest civilian airport, as well as the base airport of Air China.

Beijing Capital International Airport is China's only international airport with three runways. Terminal One is exclusively for the China Southern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines. Terminal Two is for other domestic flights and all international flights. On the east of the airport there are the Terminal Three and the third runway (3800 meters X 60 meters, to meet use of F-type aircraft's requirements) built in 2008.

Terminal Two was put into use on November 1, 1999. It is much larger than the Terminal One. It can handle 20 aircraft at the same time. There is a channel connecting Terminal One and Two. The automatic conveyor in the channel can reduce visitors' fatigue after long distance travel.

After Terminal Three was put into service, part of flights in Terminal Two moved to Terminal Three in two phases on February 29th and March 26th. Terminal Three main building, was designed by an airport consultant company from the Netherlands (NACO) and the British architects Norman Foster. Terminal Three main building project, located between the existing east runway and the new runway, is the largest single building in China. The total construction area of 986,000 square meters.
