Ming Tombs in Guilin |
China's largest existing ancient tomb group is the seignior Mingjing ancient tomb group in Guilin, Guangxi province . It is located in the south-west of Yaoshan mountain. 15 kilometers long from north to south and 7 kilometers from east to west, covers an area of one hundred and five square kilometers.
In 1370, the emperor Zhu yuan zhang appointed his grand nephew the seignior of Guilin. The nephew and his posterity rules Guilin for 280 years. Most of them buried in Mingjing ancient tomb group after their death. There are over 300 tombs.
The most representative tomb is the tomb of the third generation Zhuzhuojin and his wife- Zhuang Jian Tomb, which built in the Yongle reign, covers an area of 58,000 square meters.
In 1984, under the old tomb palace hall was rebuilt, again the 500 years old tomb palace reappeared. It is stone and bricks structure, green glazed tile and red walls. 12 pairs of stone statues are displayed on both sides of the road to the hills.
the seignior Mingjing ancient tomb group was opened in 1987, as a national key units to be protected.
