Fishing Village, Yangshuo |
Location: The fishing village in Xingping is located 1.5 km away from Xingping Town, and 25 km away from Yangshuo. Xingping fishing village is by the east bank of Li River.
History and Features: It has a history dating back more than 500 years. Founded during the Ming Dynasty in 1506, this picturesque village is infused with typical Lingnan or southeastern Chinese provincial culture.
This old village is a great place to go and see the way that local people used to live their lives before their town became world famous. Rich in culture and tradition, you can see all that Yangshuo used to be. Grandparents taking care of the kids, mothers washing in the river and fathers maintaining the town or working in the fields. 4 kilometers from the centre of town, you feel like you have actually stepped back about 100 years in time.
Historically, the village has enjoyed its moments. Kang Youwei, a Qing Dynasty reformist, publicized his progressive ideas of reform there. Sun Yat Sun visited Fish Village when he made preparations for the war against the warlords of the north.
Elegant, sloping rooftops, ornamental eaves, and narrow lanes set among the famous mountains of Yangshuo, have attracted scholars and notable persons for years. On July2, 1998, American President Clinton and delegation visited Fish Village to enjoy its history and architecture.
