Nanjing, named Jinling in ancient time, is the capital of Jiangsu Province. It is also called Ning for short. Being one of the four ancient capitals of China, Nanjing has a long history. As early as 30,000 years ago, human beings existed here. More than 6,000 years ago, primitive clan villages already appeared in the Nanjing area. In 472 BC, Yue City was built in the southwestern corner of the place where now Zhonghua Gate is. Yue City has a history of more than 2,470 years until now. Since the third century, ten dynasties had chosen Nanjing as their capitals, which left abundant cultural relics. Therefore, Nanjing, Xi'an, Luoyang and Beijing are called the four ancient capitals of China.
