Gongqing Forest Park |
Gongqing Forest Park is the second-largest park of Shanghai. It is located in Yangpu District in the north of the city. It is close to the Huangpu River on the east and not far from the war industry road on the west. It occupies a total area of 1.31 million square meters. There are almost 200,000 plants made up of 200 species. 'The pine wave and glen', 'jungle and weald', 'forest against the dark in the autumn' is formed by the knoll matches, the lawn, the lake, the brook, the jungle, and the bamboos and so on. "The village rivers and lakes reflected elegance", "the tree-planting commemoration forest" and so on which are among the 12 big leisure botanical gardens scenic area presented natural rural feeling, tranquilly and untainted characteristic forest landscape.
This park was built almost 50 years ago on reclaimed land and was designed from the outset to provide Shanghai with a place for enjoying various scenes of "nature" that feature hills, streams, a bamboo forest and various-themed areas that provide both scenic appeal and places to enjoy outdoor leisure activities. One popular area of the park is a lakeside grassy shore that has barbeque pits and a picnic area.
Although the park itself features the closest thing to a real forest you can find near the city, the surrounding area is still very much an urban environment. The area surrounding the park is light-industrial and commercial and the forested views seen within the park contrast sharply with the view of the river from here: A boat-congested waterway lined with factories and small-boat terminals. Getting to the park is best accomplished by taxi (or private car). It is not close to any current metro lines and is far enough out of the city center to be a daunting series of bus rides.
