As the fourth and newest municipality in China, Chongqing is the largest city in southwest China in terms of both territory and population. The metropolis boasts a three dimensional transportation system which has helped to make it one of the most significant transportation hubs in the country. Chongqing Transportation By air:Besides the numerous air connections with domestic cities, the city also has links with international destinations. The Jiangbei International Airport is 21km from the city center and is accessible from the city via express way. Chongqing Transportation By train:The city is linked by the Chengyu (Chengdu-Chongqing) railway, Chuanqian (Chongqing-Guiyang)railway and Xiangyu (Xiangfan-Chongqing) railway, and has further links with the national railway system. It is very convenient to travel to and from Chongqing by train. The Chongqing train station is located in the city center. Chongqing Transportation By Bus:Chongqing has a sound road system and it is quite convenient to get to Chongqing from Chengdu which is around 450km away. The two cities have express ways linking them and it costs RMB150 and takes about 4-5 hours for the trip. Chongqing Transportation By Boat:Chongqing is located beside the legendary Yangtze river and has long been an important inner land harbour. In the past, boat was the only possible way to travel to Chongqing. Today, despite severe competition from trains and planes, water transportation is still favored by many travelers both because of the comfort, leisure and the great views along the waterways. Although a boat ticket is cheaper, it is also much slower. Chongqing City Transportation:The city boasts an established network of city transport, dozens of public bus routes run between 5:30am and 9:00pm. There are also numerous minibuses and other buses available. The starting fare for Chongqing taxis, for the first 3km is RMB5 and it is quite possible to get to any place in town for RMB20 by taxi. |
