Diaoyu Islands(Japan calls the islands Senkaku Islands) are a group of eight uninhabited islands located in the East Asia Sea, nautical miles Northeast of Taiwan and 240 nautical Southwest of the Liu Chiu Islands (Ryukyu Islands, also known as Okinawa), on the Chinese side of the Okinawa shelf. They are mainly composed of Diaoyu Island, Huangwei Yu, Chiwei Yu, Beixiao Dao and Nanxiao Dao and some reefs. They have a total land area of 6.3 square kilometers and play an important strategic position with rich offshore oilminerals and fishery resources.
